Day 52 Touring around Henderson Tennessee

This is a Rock Castle it was built by Daniel Smith who came from North Carolina and moved to Tennessee, Daniel was a surveyor for boundairs between North Carolina and Tennesee and for the served in the Revolutinary War,in 1784 he was asked to help survey the city of Nashville. In 1798 he was appointed to serve Andrew Jackson's remaining term in the United States Senate, he then ran for senate in 1805 and defeated William Cocke.

The little building outside was their smoke house, the black square Ken is holding is TEA it is in a cake form and you would scrape off what you want for your tea, also the cone shape behind the tea is SUGAR now surgar was very expensive and so the lady of the house would keep it under lock and key in a little cupboard like this one.

He had built this Castal starting with one room and adding on he had 2 children and was gone alot so his wife Sarah had to handle the plantation, and the family as there had been lots of trouble with Indians, that is why they built this castle out of rock. Everything in the house is authentic and it is being looked after by a Historic Society in Henderson. A great place to see
